Today's Scripture Jigsaw

We are spared a great and eternal penalty because God has laid on his Christ the iniquity of us all. The Son of God is given to the world through the preaching of the gospel. Luther wrote, “Out of his immense goodness and mercy, God provides for the public preaching of his divine eternal law and his wonderful plan for our redemption, that of the holy, only saving gospel of his eternal Son, our only Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ” (Formula of Concord, Solid Declaration, II 50).

Eternal separation from God, the fire of hell, are avoided because Christ bore our sin to the cross. Because Christ Jesus was forsaken by his Father (Matthew 27:46) due to our sin laid upon him, we will not be separated from God. Those who believe will not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). All this awaits us because the Father loved all, the whole world, and sent his Son.

But those who rebel against God by not believing in the Son are condemned already. Only the torments of hell await them.
