A Whole Heart for the Half-hearted
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 2:20 and Matthew 22:34-40
Series: Comments on Galatians
Luther says we fail to keep the first commandment, let alone the rest of God’s law. This is what it all comes down to in the end: we could never do what is required so God had to do it for us. We can never love him enough — with all of our hearts, souls, and minds — to give ourselves wholly unto him. Therefore, in his great love for us, God gave himself for us, so that despite our coldness of heart, darkness of soul, and dullness of mind, we may be saved by his supreme work in the cross, instead of by our half-hearted efforts.
