• The promise of the forgiveness of sins is not a preaching of the law, but a truly prophetic and evangelical voice which Daniel certainly meant should be received in faith. For Daniel knew that the forgiveness of sins in Christ was not promised only to the Israelites, but also to all nations. Otherwise he could not have promised the forgiveness of sins to the king. A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper he, amid the flood

the body they may kill:
God's truth abideth still;
his kingdom is forever!
